Welcome to Kakano 7!!!

I hope you've all had a great break.

A little bit about me:

My name is Shayla Renee Dixon. I have just completed my Bachelor of Teaching at the University of Waikato at the end of 2020. I have taught at a range of schools in Hamilton and Rotorua during and after my time studying. I am so eager and keen to get right into some fun and learning with the students and whānau in Kakano 7 this year! I grew up in Rotorua and have 3 younger sisters and 3 younger brothers. I enjoy being outdoors in the sun, Kapa Haka festivals, music and many sports like volleyball and netball! I am super lucky to have the opportunity to work at this amazing school and with you all this year!

Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,  Happy Mother’s Day to all our mums today! We hope you are having an amazing day and the kids are spoiling you! We had such an action packed week. We celebrated all of our Teachers' Birthdays and Penelopes with bouncy castles, candy floss and cake!  We also celebrated World Prayer Day on Thursday. Thank you to all the children for coming dressed up in their national costume. It was so cool to see all the different nationalities and hear all the different languages at our liturgy. Our school is so lucky to have such a culturally diverse school! This week we will be sending our R.E (Religious Education) Books home! Please have a look through this with your children and fill in the whānau feedback form. Once you have filled it in please send it back to school so we can continue adding to them!   What a beautiful weekend before we start another great week at school. This week is GALA week!! It is an exciting time for all of our children and families. Thank you for supporting the PTA and continuing to bring in items each day. Attached is the sheet that all children would have brought home on Friday. There are prizes for those classes that bring in the most items! A reminder that the gala is on FRIDAY this week, not Thursday. No sausage sizzle on Friday this week. This week is a swimming week!! Make sure to bring togs and a towel everyday. On Friday morning there is St Joseph’s Mass in the church. This starts at 9AM and families are welcome to attend these. Please drop your children off to school as usual and head over to the church. Classes will walk over together. There is a house event on Friday afternoon for the children.
