Kākano Seven


We would like to welcome our new student, Sophia Hodge. She has settled into our class amazingly well and well done to all the other students who have been good friends and helped Sophia feel welcome in Kākano 7.

Well, we have had a busy week of learning this week. The children have been doing a lot of phonological awareness learning and number knowledge learning.

Our children have been enjoying our outdoor learning with bug finding, gardening, and building. We are asking if you have

anything listed below that you no longer need at home if we could please have it for our outdoor area. 

  • Hammers

  • Nails

  • Saws

  • Anything useful on our carpentry table

  • Sheets, Blankets, Large Pieces of Fabric

  • Bug catchers and containers

  • Butterfly nets

Gala Day Collection 

Thank you so much to the families that have contributed to our School Gala by bringing in things from home.

Thursday 25th February 

Bottle Day: Please bring a bottle or jar of something. e.g. Shampoo, Sauce, Condiments/Relish, Perfume, Jam, Oil, etc. Please

note that no alcohol is allowed to be brought to school by children.

 

Friday 26th February

Nacho Day - Corn Chips, Tinned Tomatoes, Chilli or Kidney Beans, Onions, Nacho Mince Recipe Sachets.


A few reminders coming to the end of the week:

Please keep a lookout for students' book bags that will have some home learning you can do with them in their bags.

Book bags need to come back to school every day of the week.  Homework has been sent home from yesterday andthe kids are excited to share and do some learning with you!

School Hats need to be brought to school otherwise students will not be able to play at morning tea and lunchtime.

Orange Library Book Bags need to be returned with x2 books by Friday. 

Remember that students need to bring a fruit or vegetable for a brain break in the morning block!

To take part in this great deal you must order on the Lunchonline platform before 9:00am on Thursday 25th February 2021.

Using Lunchonline online you can order a Pita Pit - you will have to sign up before ordering and link to St Mary's School.

  Mid Week Blog Yay - we are looking forward to seeing everyone back at school tomorrow.   Things you need to know as we head back to school at Alert Level 2. Kākano students (and siblings) can start arriving at school from 8:45am - 9:00am (this is the time before school care children arrive at school). Parents are encouraged to drop their children at the gate, if you are to come into school you will need to sign in using the QR code and follow the arrows to the classroom. No parents are to enter the classroom.  If you need to speak to your child’s teacher please email them and they will contact you. School gates will be locked from 9am.  If your child is late to school you will need to walk them to the office via the Carnot street gate. Wiki Iwa - Week Nine

Kia Ora Kākano Whitu Whānau,  We hope you have been enjoying your weekend and the sun that has been shining! We are entering a very special week for our children. The Holy Week. This week is the last week of Lent and we have so many special days to remember and learn about leading up to Easter Sunday, which is when Jesus rose from the dead.  We have some special learning happening for the children this week to help them learn about the Holy Week.  On Tuesday we have a Palm Sunday Liturgy at 12:15pm in the church On Thursday we have a Washing of the Feet Liturgy at 12:15pm in the hall.  We are teaching all our tamariki about what the week leading up to Easter Sunday is really about. Wiki Toru - Week Toru (Term 3)

  Week 3 We would like to thank everyone who came along to the three-way conferences last week.  These are a great way to celebrate the children's learning and look at what the children will be learning next. Today is the  Feast Day of Mary MacKillop and we will be celebrating this on Friday.  We celebrate this with  Mass on Friday at 12pm.  Parents and families are welcome to join us.  We have other fun activities to celebrate with the children during the day. Please remember school starts at 8:45am.  The teachers mark the roll  at this time. If your children arrive after this time they need to go to the office as they are late. Kākano 7 is going to Parish Mass for Term 3 on Monday at 9:00am. We will be having a shared morning tea afterwards at the St Marys Church.
