Good Evening Kākano Whitu Whānau!

Thank you to all of you that attended our goal-setting conferences this week. It was so good to get back in touch with you all and update you on their learning and co-construct some goals to work towards. 

We would like to welcome our 3 new members of Kākano Whitu. Maria, Alex, and Micah. We are so lucky to have you in our classroom and can't wait to see what this year holds for you!



This week we still have some exciting days coming up. Here are our mid-week reminders: 

Thursday / Friday:

If you missed out on Mother's Day Gifts today there is still time... For $3 your child can pick a gift for Mother's Day Gift for Mum, Grandma, Aunty, or for any important mother figure. This is available on Thursday and Friday this week!!



Thursday:

Children’s World Day of Prayer 6th May (Thursday)

What: Celebration of and prayer for all children all over the world 

Where: St Mary’s Church

Time : 12:15pm


Children are invited to bring their traditional dress to wear at the church. They will be able to get dressed in class before we head over.

Children come to school in their uniforms. All families welcome to attend!




Friday:

Sausage sizzle and Juicies $1.50 each

Mid Week Updates: Term Three - Week One

Kia Ora Koutu,  We have been up to a lot this week already. Our students are busy little learners from the second they walk into Kākano. Play provocations are set up for the children from 8:30am - 9:00am and it is an important time for children to be involved in learning through play. Students need to be involved in this during this time. Teachers will be marking their rolls at 8:45am and if your child arrives after that time they will need to go to the office to sign in.  Changes in our space and learning:  On Monday our children got to explore our new learning and play spaces. Kākano 7 and 5 had a change around and we now get to mix and mingle with the Year 2 students as well.  By moving our classes around we have been able to make room for a really cool handmade kitchen for the children to play with. They have been loving cooking in the kitchen, using all the different play ingredients, washing the dishes and setting up the dinner table.  If you happen to have cleaned out your kitch

Wiki Tekau ma Tahi - Week Eleven (Last Week of Term Tahi)

Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,  We have made it to the last week of term!! Last year, term one wasn’t so successful, as we had gone into lockdown after only 8 weeks. It has been a great term. All of the classes have settled well with their new teachers and we, the teachers, have loved getting to know all of the children and families. Thank you for your support during this term with various school and classroom events. Take a look at some of the photos from last week: We were lucky to Senior Constable Regan in to talk to the children about safety in the car. He talked about having the correct car seats in for the children as well as the importance of ALWAYS wearing your seatbelt. It is always great to have these community leaders come in and see the children for a casual chat so that the children know that these people are out there to help us. Wiki Rua - Week Two

Kia Ora Whānau,  This week is going along so quickly, how is it already Wednesday?  The children have settled in nicely and it is awesome to see them learning and interacting with each other.  In Kakano 7 this week we have: Literacy Starting practising writing our names Started looking at Syllables by clapping out words Mathematics Counting to 10 Statistics: how many boys and girls, who wore socks and no socks, who had a banana or apple in their lunch box and who wore shoes and who wore sandals. Religious Education Learnt a few new prayers Learnt how to do the sign of the cross when we pray The Arts Engaged in Art Activities like painting, drawing and colouring in.  Important Notices:  Friday 12th February 2021 - THIS FRIDAY! Our school assembly on Friday is now at 1:30pm! - Feel free to come along! We will be having a school mufti day !
